I don’t know what dentists count as an emergency, but I am in severe pain. The problem is I don’t have a dentist that I am a patient of because I’m afraid of dentists so I haven’t been in like 25 years. I’m just in so much pain now that I can’t stand it. I saw in my phone book that there are emergency dentists that will see people that arent’ their patient. Does being in lots of pain count as an emergency, or do you have to be bleeding?

Yes, pain counts as a dental emergency, so you can call any of the emergency dentists you see in your local listings. Given your dental phobia, may I suggest that you look for a dentist who also practices what is known as sedation dentistry? There are varying levels of sedation dentistry available. You can get nitrous oxide (laughing gas), an oral sedative, or an IV sedation. Any of those would go a long way in helping you deal with the fear, and you’d get the pleasure of a pain free dental visit.
Good Luck to you! I hope you are pain free soon.
