Nearly half of Americans (45 percent) make New Year’s resolutions, but one in three people give up on their resolution by the end of January, according to research from the pollster Harris Interactive. It’s no surprise that many resolutions are about health and appearance.
Do you want to win with your resolution? Check out the tips below to learn what works when keeping a New Year’s resolution, along with easy changes that benefit your smile!
Make it easy to keep
Have you got the tools close-at-hand that you need to keep your resolution? One great way to benefit your smile is to brush two minutes, twice a day, and to floss once a day. Buy a two-minute timer (available in fun colors) and attach it to your bathroom mirror. Keep floss in your pocket, purse, or even the glove box of your car, so it’s always easy to find. Or purchase a Sonicare toothbrush—it comes with a built-in two-minute timer. Plus, you’ll find your teeth are cleaner as a result, and easier to floss.
Write it down
According to WebMD, research conducted by the Dominican University of California shows that people who write down their goals are much more likely to achieve them. Put a post-it note on your bathroom mirror reminding you to brush. Or, use your cell phone to put a reminder (and alarm) in your calendar.
The Dominican University Study also showed that individuals who speak with friends and family about their goals feel more accountable—and are more likely to reach their goals. Let your loved ones know about your goals with your teeth. You might inspire them too!
