Do you think it is necessary to have my silver fillings replaced? I was told by a dentist that this should be done. Problem is that the cost is $3600.

Silver fillings or amalgam fillings can become what is called leaky. As time goes on they need to be replaced. Especially amalgam silver fillings. They have been known to crack and become corroded.
Although, there shouldn’t be any need to replace a filling unless a dentist has found a problem. The bacteria can get into the cracks of leaky fillings. This can cause tooth decay that begins underneath the filling. That can be a serious problem. So to answer your question, if a dentist has found an issue than you need to have them replaced. Otherwise, it is not necessary.
Sometimes patients prefer to have their old fillings removed because they don’t like the look. White fillings are popular and more aesthetically pleasing. They actually strengthen the tooth and are mercury-free.
I hope this information was helpful.
