Gum Disease Treatment

Did you know that gum disease is the number-one cause of tooth loss in Americans today? Some studies indicate that eight out of ten Americans suffer from gum disease, whether in its early stages, called gingivitis, or in its advanced form, known as periodontitis.

If your gums appear red, swollen, and tender, you have the symptoms of gum disease. Dr. Whitmore and our dedicated hygiene team want to help by eliminating your gum disease and returning optimal oral health.

Our caring and skilled hygienist will gently probe your gums, looking for signs of infection and disease. She will instruct you in proper homecare techniques to be sure your flossing and brushing are up to speed. Then, to remove plaque, food particles, and bacteria, she will carefully scrape teeth surfaces and smooth rough roots. If necessary, she may irrigate the gums or apply Arestin, a topical antibiotic, to the diseased area.

In severe cases, surgery may be required. If you believe you are one of the 80 million Americans suffering from gum disease, call our Plano office today to schedule an appointment. We are located east of the Tollway on West Parker Road, convenient to McKinney, Richardson, and Frisco.
